Update

Starting next Thursday (14 September) there will be a free shuttle bus service running all day to help improve traffic issues caused by the closure of the M4 overbridge. It will take people to the bridge closure point and link with the M3 service into Bristol, further details to follow.

Watch Council Leader Cllr Claire Young and Co-Leader Cllr Ian Boulton put residents’ questions about the work being done on the A432, to engineers from National Highways.

A section of the A432 Badminton Road will be closed to enable engineers to carry out a detailed structural investigation of the M4 bridge adjacent to the A4174 ring road.

Initial survey work revealed accelerated deterioration and cracking to the southeast underside of the bridge structure. This means that more investigations are needed. This will help determine the full extent of the work needed. Future restrictions might be needed but no decision is likely until December 2023.

For safety reasons, the bridge must remain closed to all motorists until these investigations and assessments are completed. Access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists.

Latest Update 10th August 2023

Work is starting on 14 August to improve the Henfield Road junction, Yate, while National Highways continues its inspection of the M4 overbridge. Work will last approximately three weeks and will mean Henfield Road will be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am for the first week.

We will be replacing the current temporary lights at Westerleigh Road/Henfield Road with more efficient regular traffic lights before Monday 4 September to help alleviate the increased traffic flows expected with the return to school. These new traffic lights will be removed when the A432 reopens.
