All About Green Community Transport

Green Community Travel are here for anyone that access public transport, this could be due to age or a disability but we are also here for people with no access to a public bus route, or there isn’t a bus that goes to where they need to get to.

Due to the licence we use, passengers have to be registered with us and transport has to be prebooked.

We can accommodate wheelchairs and scooters and do an assessment of these before travel. We also have plenty of space for walkers/rollators. All of our vehicles are accessible, so if you can’t use the side step to get into the vehicle, don’t worry we have tail lifts.

Ring and Ride Service

Runs from Monday-Friday from 07:30-17:00, this travels around the local area and can take you shopping, to the Doctors or Dentist, hairdressers and to meet friends. We give priority to medical appointments and you can book as far in advance as you like, for us, the more notice the better!

We can offer people in Iron Acton a regular shopping day on a Friday and can book this for every week- then you just call us if ever you don’t want to go. (We can take you shopping on other days too but are already passing Iron Acton every Friday.) Ring and Ride passengers are given loyalty cards so they can get their 10^th journey for free.

Group Travel Service

Helps local community groups and schools take groups of people out, our buses hold a maximum of 15 passengers and groups can either have their own driver (with training which we can arrange) or we can ask our fantastic team of volunteers to drive the minibus.

Voluntary Car Service

Is supported by our brilliant team of volunteers who drive their own cars, we use this service to take people to hospital, you pay the volunteers some money directly for their fuel expenses and drivers will wait for an hour and a half for you at the hospital. If you need longer than this the driver may go home and then come back for you later on. We ask for as much notice as possible for hospital appointments to give us enough time to speak to all the volunteers, there are rare occasions we cannot cover a booking but these are few and far between.

Hospital Transport Service

Works similarly to Voluntary Car but uses one of our accessible cars, so we can still take wheelchairs/scooters. If someone can’t get into a standard car we can use one of our vehicles. We charge a set price for this.

Friends of GCT Trips

Are monthly trips around the local area, but with some visits to places a bit further afield such as Highfield Garden World, Almondsbury Garden Centre, The Mall and Bradley Stoke to name a few. We do some lunches as well and coffee and cake mornings. These are advertised on our website, Facebook Page and we also have a mailing list which emails them out to passengers. You can also pick one up from the drivers when travelling.

Special trips

Running up to May 2024 as well, these are further afield and are funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, we’ve been to Weston Super Mare, Bourton on the Water and look forward to going to Burnham on Sea, Bradford on Avon and many other exciting places in the next programme. These are incredibly cheap as well, £7.50-£9.50 for a return fare!

At GCT we are always seeking new volunteers to join our fun and friendly team, we’re really lucky to have such a committed team of volunteers and paid staff, but the generosity and kindness of our volunteers helps us to keep costs low for our passengers. Every mile makes a difference at GCT so we work with each individual volunteer to tailor their experience to what suits them and their lives.

We have scope for reducing fares or membership costs if anyone is in financial hardship and this would be treated confidentially.
